The average price of regular gasoline in Watertown fell six cents from the previous week to $4.37 a gallon on Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, according to AAA Western and Central New York. The decline came as gasoline prices fell across New York and the nation, though crude oil prices continued to limit the drop.
New York’s average regular gasoline price was $4.34 a gallon, down four cents from the previous Monday, while the national average was about $4.16, down 12 cents, according to AAA. Diesel averaged $6.48 a gallon in New York, down one cent from the previous week. The national diesel average was $6.29.
Within the AAA region that includes Watertown, Rome and Syracuse, prices varied. Ithaca averaged $4.39 a gallon, followed by Watertown and Rome at $4.37, Syracuse at $4.29, Buffalo at $4.34 and Elmira at $4.14. Watertown was tied with Rome for the region’s second-highest average and was below Ithaca.
AAA said gasoline prices typically decline at this time of year, but elevated crude oil prices have limited the decrease. Military action in the Middle East that began Feb. 28, 2026, was followed by a sharp reduction in shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Brent crude finished the first quarter at $118 a barrel.
Shipping partly recovered after a June 18 memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, but CNN reported that 10 tankers were struck in the strait between Sept. 28 and Oct. 4. Watertown’s average was about $4.55 around Sept. 21, $4.57 around Sept. 28 and $4.54 around Oct. 5 before falling to the November average.
The prices affect drivers, households and businesses across Northern New York, including Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties, Fort Drum, the Thousand Islands and Tug Hill. The regional averages provide a broad comparison, while the price at an individual station can differ.
AAA publishes weekly Monday averages. The next release is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 9. The U.S. Energy Information Administration’s next gasoline and diesel update is scheduled for Nov. 3. Further declines remain uncertain because crude oil prices are still limiting the usual seasonal drop. Readers can track state and national averages through AAA Gas Prices and fuel-market updates through the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
