Four North Country fire districts were awarded a combined $2,488,223 through New York’s Volunteer Fire Infrastructure and Response Equipment Grant Program. The awards were part of $25 million distributed to 65 volunteer fire departments and districts statewide.

The Adams Center Fire District in Jefferson County received $1 million, while the Port Henry Fire District No. 3 in Essex County received $1 million. The Town of Gouverneur/Gouverneur Fire Company Inc. in St. Lawrence County received $330,724, and the Parishville Fire District in St. Lawrence County received $157,499.

The program is administered by the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services. Grants may support fire station construction or renovations, training facilities, protective equipment, decontamination supplies and exhaust-removal systems.
